Parenting Tips - Reverse Psychology

June 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Sometimes raising children can be a difficult daunting task. Some kids just do not listen. Reverse psychology might be one of the techniques that you can use with your children. Basically, it is the technique that tries to get your children to do the exact opposite of what you really want them to do. For instance, if you want them to eat the vegetable, you can say something like: I bet you cant eat all of those veggies.

Reverse psychology can work well with some kids. You can probably convince some kids to obey you with reverse psychology. However, you have to be very carefully. If you do not use it right, reverse psychology can lower their self esteem. Here is an example. If you want your children to do well on a test, you might say something like this.

I dont think you are smart enough to well on the next test. Prove me wrong.

Although there may be some kids that want to take on your challenge, a lot of kids may feel that they are not smart enough. Some of them will just simply stop trying.

Reverse psychology should not be used often. If you want to use this technique, you do not want to lower your childrens self esteem. It is important to remember that reverser psychology does not always work. In many cases, you should just use other traditional discipline technique. Sometimes the best method of disciplining is the simplest one. You can just talk to your children.
