Going it Alone

June 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Raising kids today is a tough job, and it can be all that much harder if you don't have someone to help you.

Single parenting is pretty common these days, and though a single person with a children (or child) is still occasionally looked down upon. It is just a little sad for society that a married couple raising their children together is sometimes more of a rarity.

Parenting is a full time job, in addition to the full time job or jobs that are needed to support yourself and your children. Having someone in your life that can help you is going to make all the difference. Whether it is the other parent, (shared parenting) or a friend, or family member, or a new significant other. Every single parent seeds someone to share the experiences and the worries, the funny stories, and the car pools. If you don't have someone already in your life that can help you carry the very heavy load of single parenting, the sense of doing everything on your own, might eventually be overwhelming. Just having someone to talk to is a way to relieve the stress that single parenting can put you under.

There are many options out there, if you don't have close friends or family to share the burdens with.

Church groups

Parenting forums (like this one!)

Single parenting clubs (Parents without Partners)

School activities (Girl scouts, Boy Scouts, etc.)

Even hotlines that you can call if you really start to feel like you have nowhere else to turn.

Every state and most counties will have an 800 number that you can call, to find the one for your area, perform an internet search of any term similar to "single parenting resources". The help is out there, and though you may feel like you are, really you are not alone. Many people in this situation have found comfort and support through agencies and community groups that dedicate themselves toward the many issues facing single parents.
